■ Work
Story of the forest
teamLab, 2016, Interactive Digital installation, Endless, Sound: Hideaki Takahashi
Featuring flowers, plants and animals living in Singapore, the work turned the Glass Rotunda of National Museum of Singapore into a mesmerizing digital art piece. The large-scale installation space consists of: a drum space with a domed ceiling 15m high, with a bridge spanning across the dome, and an 80m passage that continues on from the bridge and down to the base of the drum. The 15m-high dome ceiling showcases the inifinitely expanding universe where the flowers of Singapore bloom and change over time. Crossing the sky bridge through the falling flowers of the dome, visitors descend an 80m passageway through a vast interactive forest inhabited by the animals of Singapore. As visitors proceed the forest changes from morning, noon, and to night. The forest also changes in accordance with the dry and wet seasons of Singapore. On re-entering the base of the dome, if visitors stand still close to the wall an area of ground appears, a forest rises up, and animals appear. The artwork is depicted in real time by a computer program. Previous visual states can never be replicated, and will never reoccur.

■ National Museum of Singapore

With a history dating back to its inception in 1887, the National Museum of Singapore is the nation's oldest museum with a progressive mind. Its galleries adopt cutting-edge and multi-perspective ways of presenting history and culture to redefine conventional museum experience. A cultural and architectural landmark in Singapore, the Museum hosts innovative festivals and events all year round—the dynamic Night Festival, visually arresting art installations, as well as amazing performances and film screenings—in addition to presenting thought-provoking exhibitions involving critically important collections of artefacts. The programming is supported by a wide range of facilities and services including F&B, retail and a Resource Centre. The National Museum of Singapore re-opened in December 2006 after a three-year redevelopment, and celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2012. The Museum refreshed its permanent galleries and re-opened them on 19 September 2015 for Singapore's Golden Jubilee.

■Opening Remark of Toshiyuki Inoko, founder of teamLab
teamLab’s artwork, “Peace Can Be Realised Even Without Order”, that was exhibited at the Singapore Biennale in 2013, was the starting point of a strong tie between Singapore and teamLab. The artwork was a breakthrough for teamLab’s international recognition - and after that, we were able to offer more art projects outside of Japan.

It was our great pleasure to have a chance to create this huge installation space with the motifs of a Singaporean forest with the Singaporean animals and plants that inhabit it. You can walk inside the beautiful Singaporean forest and learn all about the flora and fauna - Please come and visit and enjoy our immersive artwork.
