SURROUND YOURSELF WITH FLOWERS IN TEAMLAB’S INTERACTIVE INSTALLATION
Blurring the lines between art, science, and technology, the Japanese artist collective teamLab creates interactive installations that bring the traditions of their culture into the 21st century. Their recent work, Floating Flower Garden—Flowers and I are of the same root, the Garden and I are one, considers the ancient role of the Zen garden in a priest’s quest to become one with nature. For the installation at the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation in Tokyo, more than 2,300 living, growing flowers are inverted and hung from the ceiling. Viewers are invited to enter the dense floral forest. As people approach, the flowers slowly rise to create a dome around them. Completely enveloped by the garden, the viewers quite literally become one with it.
