Resisting and Resonating Ovoids and Forest

teamLab, 2018, Interactive Digital Installation, Endless, Sound: Hideaki Takahashi

Autonomous Resonating Life on the Lake Surface

teamLab, 2018, Interactive Digital Installation, Endless, Sound: Hideaki Takahashi

Floating, Resonating Spheres

teamLab, 2015, Interactive Installation, Endless, Sound: Hideaki Takahashi

teamLab: Digitized Lakeside and Forest opens Dec 1.
Transforming Metsa Village in Miyazawa Lake and the Surrounding Lakeside Forest into an Interactive Digital Art Space.
Hanno City, Saitama Prefecture. Early Bird Tickets Available Starting Oct 22.

On November 9, 2018, Metsa Village, a facility where guests can experience a Northern European vacation lifestyle, will open at Miyazawa Lake in Hanno City, Saitama Prefecture. There, teamLab: Digitized Lakeside and Forest will transform the lake and surrounding forest into a digital art space that changes based on the presence of people.

The exhibition will run from December 1, 2018 to March 3, 2019.

Early Bird Tickets will be available starting October 22, 2018 on the Lawson Ticket website, Nippon TV ONline Ticket, and Lawson Ministop Store Loppi.

With Miyazawa Lake at its center, Metsa Village is a space where visitors can spend their time at a Northern European-style lake and forest setting, where they may realize the essence of their minds and bring this experience back to their everyday lives. The beautiful lake and verdant environment have been carefully tended, bringing visitors closer to nature and allowing them to experience a Northern European lifestyle and atmosphere even as they go about their everyday activities.

This exhibition is a part of teamLab’s art project, “Digitized Nature.” The concept behind the project is that non-material digital art can turn a nature into art without harming it.

[Featured Works]

Resisting and Resonating Ovoids and Forest

teamLab, 2018, Interactive Digital Installation, Endless, Sound: Hideaki Takahashi

Artwork: https://www.teamlab.art/ew/objects-and-forest

The resisting and resonating ovoids placed around the Lakeside Forest, together with the trees of the forest, shine brightly. The light of the ovoids and the light of the trees are autonomous: they shine brightly and then fade slowly, as though they are breathing.

When the ovoid is pushed, the colour of the light it emits changes, and the tone unique to that color echoes out. The light that originated from that ovoid resonates out to other ovoids and trees nearby. The tone resonates out continuously in the same way as the light spreads throughout the ovoids and the trees.

If a wave of light comes from the other side of the forest, it signifies that there is another person in that location. As a result, people gain a heightened sense of awareness of the presence of other people in the same space.

Autonomous Resonating Life on the Lake Surface

teamLab, 2018, Interactive Digital Installation, Endless, Sound: Hideaki Takahashi

Artwork: https://www.teamlab.art/ew/autonomous-onthelakesurface/

The ovoid objects of light standing on the surface of the lake are autonomous, they shine brightly and then fade as if slowly breathing.

When an ovoid of light is blown by the wind and tilts, the color of it’s light changes and it emits a sound tone specific to the color. The light resonates out radially to light objects nearby. The resonating light is transmitted to the next object one after another, spreading the color tone in the same way continuously.

Floating, Resonating Spheres

teamLab, 2015, Interactive Installation, Endless, Sound: Hideaki Takahashi

Artwork: https://www.teamlab.art/w/fr_spheres

Spheres of light float in the installation space. They move on their own, shining brightly, then disappearing—as if softly breathing.

When the spheres of light are touched by a person or receive an impact, the color of their light changes, and they emit a musical tone unique to their new color. They then resonate that color and tone to the spheres around them, changing to the same color and emitting the same tone, resulting in a chain reaction.
